A WORD FROM JULIE

A long time ago, I dreamed that KC, Ben, and I, along with many others, were singing in an old building in Asheboro, NC. In the dream, I saw the doors open, and I could see the sound—like visible breath in the cold—rising up and flowing out into the streets. Angels joined us, soaring over the streets, cars, and people, while the fragrance of the Lord enveloped everything around us. I felt an obsession to move to Asheboro and immerse myself in the spirit of the Lord!

We had much to learn and many challenges (and moments of suffering) to endure before we actually ended up here. Our reality rarely resembles our swirling, holy dreams, does it? You know that passage, “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” Perhaps freedom simply looks like saying yes. Sometimes, it requires the risky act of putting our faith to the test. It may involve two years of wandering up and down streets, occasionally stepping in messes, bussing tables, rolling silverware, navigating new schools and jobs, dealing with musty basements, grieving past relationships, and opening our hearts to new ones. We are discovering God’s friendly presence in the most unexpected places.

We used to host worship nights in Charlotte called “Around the Table.” We would eat, sing, and take communion together. On Friday night, January 31, we will host our first worship + community night in downtown Asheboro.

We haven’t led together in over two years, and I don’t know any new worship songs, but we say yes. We have friends coming to share, which is the best way to commune. We are filled with hope and gratitude on this journey with God and with you.
